Is it too late to start slowing your aging if you didn't begin in your 20s? Longevity researcher Dr. Rich Miller joins Dr. Ted Lain to share a finding that surprised his own lab. Rich explains that his team expected anti-aging drugs to work best when started early in life — but the data said otherwise. Rapamycin, canagliflozin, and 17 alpha-estradiol all produced the same dramatic lifespan extension in mice when started in middle age (roughly equivalent to a 60-year-old human) as they did when started young. Acarbose was the one exception, delivering about half the benefit when started later. For Rich, this was a genuine surprise — and a promising sign for the idea that anti-aging therapies could still meaningfully help people who don't start until midlife. The conversation also tackles a linguistic debate: is "anti-aging" even the right term if these drugs slow aging rather than stop it? Rich pushes back on the idea that the label is misleading, defining aging simply as the process that turns a healthy young person into someone with more health problems and functional decline — and arguing that a drug proven to slow those changes, and reduce mortality risk in the process, absolutely earns the name "anti-aging." A hopeful, data-backed look at whether it's ever too late to intervene in aging. #AntiAging #Longevity #Aging #HealthSpan #Rapamycin #AgingResearch #Gerontology #ScienceOfSkin #HealthyAging #LongevityScience Follow and Listen to the Podcast Here: 🍎 Apple Podcasts — https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/skincare-confidential/id1664286292 🎵 Spotify — https://open.spotify.com/show/033Vffp4W8A72pVRVaoWzs 📦 Amazon Music — https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/7de48e5e-f450-466b-a0f4-f2275b67757f/skincare-confidential 💚 iHeart Radio — https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-the-science-of-skin-269540115/ 📻 Audacy — https://www.audacy.com/podcast/skincare-confidential-4398f Disclaimer: This clip is not intended to provide diagnosis, treatment, or medical advice.
