*Our genes are only part of the story of how we age. What about everything that happens to us along the way?*
The places we live, the air we breathe, what we eat, how we sleep, the products we use, our work, stress, relationships, movement, social environment, and countless other exposures accumulate throughout our lives.
Together, they form what science increasingly describes as the *exposome*: the totality of environmental and lifestyle exposures that interact with our biology over a lifetime.
In *The Exposome Project* at the Milan Longevity Summit 2026, *Gerome Guiot, Tina Woods, Nic Palmarini, David Furman, Joanna Bensz, and Antonio Forenza* come together to explore what happens when we begin to understand longevity not through isolated risk factors, but through the complex environments in which people actually live.
Bringing together perspectives from *science, longevity, consumer products, innovation, preventive health, ageing, and wearable technology*, the panel examines how the exposome could change the way we understand and influence health across the lifespan.
Can we begin to measure the cumulative impact of our everyday environments? How do external exposures interact with inflammation, immunity, and biological ageing? What can wearables, biomarkers, and new forms of data reveal about these relationships? How important is joy as a longevity factor? And could a better understanding of the exposome allow us to move from generic health recommendations towards more personalised approaches to prevention?
The conversation also expands responsibility for health beyond the individual.
If our environments influence how we age, then longevity is not determined only by the choices we make. It is also shaped by the *products, workplaces, neighbourhoods, cities, services, and social conditions* surrounding us every day
*Participants:*
• Gerome Guiot – Strategic Projects Director, LVMH
• Tina Woods – Founder & Chief Executive Officer, Collider Health; Executive Director, International Institute of Longevity
• Nic Palmarini – Director, UK National Innovation Centre for Ageing
• David Furman – Associate Professor and Director, Buck Institute for Research on Aging & Stanford
• Joanna Bensz – Founder & Chief Executive Officer, Longevity Center
• Antonio Forenza – Founder & Chief Executive Officer, AWEAR
Ultimately, the exposome offers a different way of thinking about longevity: *not as something contained within the body, but as the continuous interaction between our biology and the world around us.*
Understanding that relationship could transform how we design prevention, products, environments, and ultimately healthier lives.
