Mayo Clinic's DNA aptamers can now locate senescent cells in human tissue - and a separate team reversed memory deficits in aged mice by blocking immune cells from crossing into the brain.
Together, these findings shift aging biology from a measurement problem into a design problem. The aptamers give senolytics its first reliable readout: dosing protocols become biological rather than symptomatic, and the next generation of therapies can be designed against a live signal rather than guesswork. The immune-system pathway the T-cell research opens draws on antibody classes already deployed in other conditions, compressing the distance between mechanism and clinical candidate.
The picture forming across both findings is a multi-system failure with multiple addressable levers. The instruments being built this year are the ones the next generation of treatments will be calibrated against.
