About this video

Creator description · original textText language: English

Today, do four wall sits. About two minutes each. Rest one to two minutes between. Back against the wall, sit until your thighs are roughly parallel if your knees allow. Stop if it hurts. This is the start of the protocol, not a one-session cure. The lie I taught in medical school: aerobic exercise is the only movement that lowers blood pressure. Walk, jog, or write a prescription. Edwards JJ et al., British Journal of Sports Medicine 2023;57(20):1317-1326. Pairwise and network meta-analysis of 270 randomized controlled trials, 15,827 participants. Exercise interventions lasting at least 2 weeks vs a non-intervention control. Isometric exercise training: resting SBP -8.24 mm Hg, DBP -4.00 mm Hg, p less than 0.001. Aerobic: -4.49 / -2.53. Dynamic resistance: -4.55 / -3.04. Combined: -6.04 / -2.54. HIIT: -4.08 / -2.50. SUCRA rank for SBP: isometric 98.3% (highest). Secondary network: isometric wall squat the most effective submode for SBP (SUCRA 90.4%); running most effective for DBP (91.3%). Typical IET protocol: 4 x 2 min contractions, 1 to 4 min rest, 3 times a week. Wall squat may use a self-selected knee angle with rising RPE across the four bouts. DOI 10.1136/bjsports-2022-106503 PMID 37491419. These numbers are from weeks of training (at least 2 weeks), not one session today. Meta-analysis and network ranking, not a stroke or heart-attack endpoint trial. Isometric holds can raise blood pressure during the hold. Uncontrolled hypertension, recent cardiac event, or a clinician who said no to straining: skip or ask first. Knee, hip, or back pain: shallower sit or skip. Do not stop blood pressure medication on your own. Related: The Blood Pressure Lie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZ6Kh9BiQkw #MetabolicHealth #HealthLongevitySecrets #BloodPressure
