Subscribe to our channel: https://www.youtube.com/@mkaeberlein What does the science of aging actually tell us—and how much of what we hear in the longevity space is hype? In this keynote lecture from the 2025 Longevity Summit Mauritius, I provide an overview of the biology of aging, the principles of geroscience, and the opportunities and challenges facing the emerging field of Healthspan Medicine. I discuss why biological aging is the single greatest risk factor for most chronic diseases, what we know (and don’t know) about the hallmarks of aging, and why precision and scientific rigor are essential if longevity medicine is going to fulfill its promise. Topics covered include: • What biological aging is—and why it is different from chronological age • The hallmarks of aging and how they are connected through conserved biological pathways • Why targeting aging biology may be more effective than treating individual diseases one at a time • Common misconceptions about aging, longevity, and biological age testing • The current evidence for interventions such as caloric restriction and rapamycin • Lessons from the Dog Aging Project and efforts to extend healthy lifespan in companion animals • Evidence-based approaches to healthspan medicine and proactive healthcare • The limitations of direct-to-consumer biological age tests and microbiome testing • The promise and risks of peptides, supplements, therapeutic plasma exchange, gene therapies, and other emerging interventions • How AI may help scale access to personalized healthspan medicine in the future Throughout the talk, I argue that the longevity field must remain grounded in evidence, transparency, and clinical rigor. While there is tremendous reason for optimism, there is also a need to separate credible science from speculation and marketing if we hope to meaningfully improve health and longevity for people and their companion animals. If you enjoy thoughtful discussions about aging biology, longevity interventions, and the future of healthspan medicine, consider subscribing to the channel. #Longevity #Aging #Geroscience #Healthspan #Rapamycin #BiologicalAge #PrecisionMedicine #DogAgingProject #LongevityScience #HealthyAging #Medicine #Healthcare #AIinHealthcare #MattKaeberlein DISCLAIMER: The information provided on this channel is intended solely for general educational purposes and is not meant to be, nor should it be construed as, personalized medical advice. I spent the first few decades of my career doing scientific research into the biology of aging, trying to understand the finer details of how humans age in order to facilitate translational interventions that promote healthspan and improve quality of life. Now I want to take some of that knowledge out of the lab and into the hands of people who can really use it. On this channel I talk about all things aging and healthspan, from supplements and nutrition to the latest discoveries in longevity research. My goal is to lift the veil on the geroscience and longevity world and help you apply what we know to your own personal health trajectory. I care about quality science and will always be honest about what I don't know. I hope you'll find these episodes helpful!
