What if one of the keys to slowing ageing lies inside our own cells?
Scientists are increasingly studying cellular senescence — a state in which cells stop dividing but can remain metabolically active and release inflammatory signals known as the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP).
This video explores the emerging science behind senescence-associated biomarkers and new strategies being investigated to target senescent cells, including senolytic and senomorphic approaches.
We look at how researchers are trying to identify specific biomarkers, understand the biology of senescent cells, and develop future therapies that could potentially improve healthspan and help address age-related diseases.
⚠️ Important: These approaches are still an active area of research. Promising findings, particularly from laboratory and preclinical studies, do not mean that an established anti-ageing treatment currently exists.
📚 Based on current scientific literature and research on cellular senescence, senescence-associated biomarkers, and senotherapeutics.
