About this video

In this 130th episode of Sober Head Podcast, Dr. Esra Çavuşoğlu, PhD welcomes Dr. Nir Barzilai, MD. Dr. Nir Barzilai is Professor of Medicine and Genetics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Director of the Institute for Geroscience. He is one of the leading scientists in the fields of the biology of aging and the genetics of human longevity. His research focuses on protective genes that help delay aging and age-related diseases in centenarians, and he is also the driving force behind the TAME trial, which investigates the effects of metformin on aging. What if everything we think we know about longevity is wrong? Why do some people live beyond 100 despite smoking, being overweight, and never following a perfect health routine? In this episode of Sober Head podcast, I'm joined by Dr. Nir Barzilai, a pioneer in geroscience and longevity research, whose groundbreaking studies of centenarians have revealed how protective genetic mechanisms may delay age-related diseases and extend healthspan. We explore why exceptional longevity isn't just about diet, exercise, or supplements, and how growth hormone and IGF-1 may have dramatically different effects on aging depending on our biological age. Dr. Barzilai also explains the potential of metformin, GLP-1 drugs, SGLT2 inhibitors, and other gerotherapeutics to target the biology of aging rather than individual diseases. We discuss the science behind MOTS-c and Humanin peptides, the risks of unregulated peptide injections, the truth about longevity supplements, and what the evidence actually says about hyperbaric oxygen therapy, stem cells, and biological age testing. Can we slow biological aging, delay chronic disease, and remain healthy well into our 90s and beyond? The ultimate goal of longevity science may not be to live forever, but to compress illness into the shortest possible period at the end of life. Join us for a fascinating discussion about the future of aging, preventive medicine, and the science of living longer and healthier. #EsraÇavuşoğlu #AyıkKafa #ElevatingLifeEvolvingHealth #Longevilab #NirBarziali Dr. Nir Barzilai, MD Website: https://einsteinmed.edu/faculty/484/nir-barzilai Special thanks to T.C.
