Should we treat aging organ by organ, or as one connected process running through the whole body? A disease might show up in the liver or the brain, but the biology behind it — chronic inflammation, metabolic dysfunction, mitochondrial decline — tends to run everywhere at once:
Nothing is purely an organ-based issue; every organ-specific disease is part of a broader systemic process.
Chronic stress quietly erodes mitochondrial efficiency across tissues. Nutrition is more nuanced than a simple whole-body-versus-organ split — some bioactive compounds genuinely do target specific organs, with nutrition for age-related macular degeneration as one example, even while general diet still supports the whole system.
Autoimmune disease got a more careful treatment: personalized nutrition can't prevent or cure it, but identifying individual food sensitivities may help manage flare-ups. Personalized medicine and nutrigenomics — tailoring interventions to a person's actual biology instead of a population average — came through as the field's clear direction of travel.
