New in Nature Medicine: a daily multivitamin slowed biological aging in a randomized trial.
In the COSMOS trial, 958 older adults (average age 70) took a daily multivitamin or placebo for two years. Researchers tracked five epigenetic clocks — DNA methylation measures of biological age. The multivitamin group aged more slowly on all five, significantly on the two clocks that best predict mortality: about four months less biological aging. The benefit was greatest in people already aging faster than their birthdays.
The caveat: the effect is small, and epigenetic clocks are surrogate markers — no proof of longer life or less disease, and we don't know if it persists after stopping.
Today's drop: take a daily multivitamin with breakfast.
Why it matters: methylation chemistry runs on micronutrients — folate, B12, zinc. Age and ultraprocessed diets widen those gaps; closing them may nudge aging itself.
