*Sarcopenia and Healthy Aging: Capturing What Counts in Muscle Failure* What does losing muscle really tell us about how well we are ageing? In this session from *Exercise and Longevity: Optimizing Health Across the Lifespan* at the *Milan Longevity Summit 2026*, *Dr. Riccardo Calvani* explores sarcopenia and the search for better ways to understand and measure age-related muscle failure. Muscle ageing is more complex than simply losing muscle mass. Changes in strength, metabolism, cellular function, and the interaction between muscle and other systems can all influence mobility, frailty, resilience, and independence. Dr. Calvani examines which biological and functional signals matter most and how improved biomarkers and assessment tools could help identify muscle decline earlier, monitor its progression, and support more personalised strategies for healthy ageing. Dr. Riccardo Calvani is a researcher at the *Catholic University of the Sacred Heart*, where his work focuses on sarcopenia, frailty, muscle biology, biomarkers, and healthy ageing. His research contributes to a deeper understanding of the mechanisms underlying physical decline and how they can be detected and addressed across the lifespan. The Milan Longevity Summit brings together global leaders across science, medicine, policy, business, technology and society to rethink the future of health through a *One Health* perspective—recognising that the wellbeing of people, planet and economies is deeply interconnected. *Learn more about the Milan Longevity Summit:* hhttps://www.milanlongevitysummit.org/it/speakers26/riccardo-calvani #MilanLongevitySummit #Longevity #OneHealth #RiccardoCalvani #Sarcopenia #MuscleHealth #HealthyAgeing #Frailty #Biomarkers #Healthspan
