About this video

Creator description · original textText language: English

In this talk, Dr. Hiroshi Kondoh, Kyoto University Hospital, Japan, explores how aged individuals maintain homeostasis despite constant exposure to stress, stimuli, and damage through defense, compensation, modulation, and repair. Resilience is key to recovery from disease, stress, or crises, and its decline in the elderly contributes to reduced daily activity and multimorbidity. Dr. Kondoh highlights the multifaceted roles of senescent cells in homeostasis, carcinogenesis defense, development, tissue repair, aging, and disease. Their harmful effects, mediated by the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP), promote chronic inflammation and age-related disorders—further impairing resilience. Senotherapy, which targets aging by eliminating senescent cells (senolytics) or reducing chronic inflammation (senostatics), emerges as a promising approach for aging-related diseases. Calorie restriction alleviates inflammation through senostatics, while senolytic drugs induce apoptosis of senescent cells. Both strategies help reduce sterile inflammation. His findings in whole-blood metabolomics and glycolytic regulation suggest that impaired metabolic resilience is a key target for senotherapy, aiming to preserve resilience in aging. 🔔 Subscribe and stay tuned!
