About this video

Creator description · original textText language: English

Physical inactivity is a major global health crisis, recognized as a leading independent risk factor for numerous chronic diseases and a significant contributor to reduced lifespan and HealthSpan. In this talk, Dr. Vivekanand Upadhyay, FØNIXEN Spine and Pain Center, discusses landmark and cutting-edge research demonstrating the profound physiological and psychological benefits of exercise, positioning it as a cornerstone of chronic disease prevention, longevity promotion, and healthspan extension within the framework of lifestyle medicine. He explores the multifaceted mechanisms through which exercise exerts its protective, therapeutic, and longevity-enhancing effects. At the molecular level, Dr. Upadhyay discusses how exercise enhances insulin sensitivity, improves glucose uptake and utilization, and reduces visceral fat accumulation, mitigating the metabolic dysregulation underlying T2D and obesity. He highlights the impact of exercise on cardiovascular health, including improved endothelial function, reduced blood pressure, favorable lipid profiles, and enhanced cardiac contractility. Dr. Upadhyay examines research demonstrating that regular exercise is associated with longer telomere length, a key biomarker of cellular aging. The benefits of exercise for mental health, including the reduction of anxiety and depression symptoms, are discussed. He explores different modalities of exercise (aerobic, resistance, flexibility, balance) and their specific benefits for various chronic conditions and for promoting healthy aging. Through the talk, he champions the message that "exercise is medicine" and a key to unlocking a longer, healthier life. 🔔 Subscribe and stay tuned!
