VDR rs7975232 genotype modified insulin-resistance links to lipid risk markers in older adults
In 95 older adults in long-term care, the VDR rs7975232 genotype was not independently linked to metabolic markers, but in AA carriers it modified associations between the triglyceride-glucose index and NEFA and AIP. This is an abstract of an observational study; associations are not causes. [1]

The key findings
The study included 95 older adults in a long-term care facility with a mean age of 62.5 ± 14.1 years. [1]
The rs7975232 genotype was not independently associated with TyG, NEFA, AIP or other metabolic characteristics. [1]
Significant genotype × TyG interactions for NEFA and AIP were observed in AA carriers compared with the AC reference genotype. [1]

Older care residents and metabolic markers studied
The study asked whether the vitamin D receptor variant rs7975232 relates to metabolic markers and whether genotype changes the link between glucose–lipid disturbances and metabolic phenotype in older adults. It included 95 older adults living in a long-term care facility (mean age 62.5 ± 14.1 years). Anthropometric and fasting biochemical parameters were measured, and the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, HOMA-IR (a fasting insulin-resistance estimate) and atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) were calculated. Genotyping used real-time PCR.

AA carriers showed interactions for NEFA and AIP
The rs7975232 genotype was not independently associated with TyG, NEFA, AIP or other metabolic characteristics. However, significant genotype × TyG interactions appeared for NEFA and AIP in AA genotype carriers compared with the AC reference genotype. A similar interaction was seen for fasting insulin, while no significant interactions were found for glucose and only a borderline interaction for log-transformed HOMA-IR. Regression models adjusted for age, sex and waist-to-hip ratio.

Abstract-only scope and observational limits
The authors conclude that the variant may modify metabolic responses rather than independently determine metabolic phenotype, possibly influencing susceptibility to adverse metabolic changes in older adults with greater glucose–lipid disturbances. This is an abstract; the full text was not reviewed. The design is observational, the sample is 95 people in one long-term care setting, and the reported interactions do not show that the genotype causes metabolic changes.

How to interpret this
Abstract only; the full text was not reviewed. Observational study of 95 residents in one long-term care facility; reported interactions are associations, not evidence of causation.
Based on the study abstract; the full paper, tables and supplementary data were not reviewed.
