About this video

Creator description · original textText language: English

Join us every Tuesday at 2pm ET for BrainTalk Live! In this session, we are joined by UCSF's Katie L. Stone PhD to discuss how targeting sleep can reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Dr. Stone is Senior Scientist at California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute and Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of California, San Francisco. She is an epidemiologist with decades of experience conducting large-scale multi-center cohort studies and clinical trials exploring the interrelationships between sleep and circadian rest-activity rhythms and age-related outcomes including cognitive impairment and dementia, falls and fractures, cardiovascular disease and mortality. Results from Dr. Stone’s research have resulted in seminal findings, including showing that disrupted circadian rest-activity rhythms and sleep apnea are risk factors for incident dementia in older women. She is currently conducting the ESSENTIAL Trial (NCT05988385) to determine if treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea can slow cognitive decline and progression to Alzheimer’s Disease. Dr. Stone is Deputy Editor-in-Chief for the journal SLEEP. Founded in 2005, the Goizueta Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) facilitates research of and education on Alzheimer’s disease and other related forms of cognitive impairment. The Goizueta ADRC is part of a national network of Alzheimer’s research centers supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). BrainTalk Live is a weekly webinar that began at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in spring 2020 as a way to stay connected with our community.
