About this video

Creator description · original textText language: English

At least not compared to normal calorie restriction and maintaining a healthy body fat percentage. And the people who claim it is uniquely beneficial for longevity make these claims from: • Studies in yeast 🧫 (LOL) • Studies in rodents 🐭 (poor model for longevity, although great model for protein metabolism) • Or misinterpreted monkey studies (more on that in a bit) Here’s what the actual data shows: When calories are matched, fasting (time-restricted eating) vs. continuous dieting → -same fat loss -same improvement in insulin sensitivity -same improvement in blood lipids PMID: 35443107 No magic. What about autophagy? Fasting doesn’t uniquely increase it beyond a calorie deficit (PMID: 34135111) . And those “calorie restriction increases lifespan” studies? They’re mostly preventing overfeeding in animals… not putting them into some special metabolic state. You see, animals overconsume food in captivity and when the researchers put them in ‘calorie restriction’ they typically restrict their intake by 30% compared to what they normally eat. If this was truly a calorie deficit you’d see significant reductions in body weight, but what you see in these studies, is a small reduction in body weight (if any) and then weight stays stable The real driver of longevity (in humans)? Maintaining a healthy body composition. These studies aren’t showing a unique metabolic state, they are showing that when you don’t overfeed and gain excess body fat, you live longer If fasting helps you do that → great. If it doesn’t → it’s not doing anything special. Fasting isn’t magic. It’s just a tool. If you’re tired of chasing ‘biohacks’ like fasting and just want a plan that actually works long term, comment ‘COACHING’ and I’ll send you how to apply.
