*Anti-Inflammatory Effects of GLP-1R Agonists*
Could the impact of GLP-1 therapies extend beyond metabolism to the immune system itself?
In this session from *Metabolic Therapies and Longevity: Beyond Disease Management* at the *Milan Longevity Summit 2026*, *Professor Paolo Fiorina* explores the emerging evidence that GLP-1 receptor agonists may influence inflammation as well as glucose metabolism and body weight.
Chronic low-grade inflammation is a common feature of metabolic disease and ageing and contributes to cardiovascular disease, insulin resistance, and dysfunction across multiple organ systems. Understanding whether GLP-1 therapies can modulate these inflammatory pathways could significantly broaden their therapeutic relevance.
Professor Fiorina examines the biological mechanisms connecting metabolic signalling and immunity and what the anti-inflammatory effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists could mean for the prevention of chronic disease and the future of longevity medicine.
Professor Paolo Fiorina is Full Professor at the *University of Milan* and Director of the *International Center for Type 1 Diabetes*. A physician-scientist in diabetes, immunology, and regenerative medicine, his research focuses on the mechanisms connecting metabolism and immune function and on developing innovative therapies for diabetes and its complications.
The Milan Longevity Summit brings together global leaders across science, medicine, policy, business, technology and society to rethink the future of health through a *One Health* perspective—recognising that the wellbeing of people, planet and economies is deeply interconnected.
