*Stability of the Inactive X Chromosome Across the Lifespan and Its Implications for Sex-Biased Disease* __ Why do many diseases affect women and men differently? In this session from *Decoding the Biology of Ageing* at the *Milan Longevity Summit 2026*, *Dr. Daniel Andergassen* explores the biology of the inactive X chromosome and its emerging role in ageing, health, and sex-biased disease. Although one X chromosome is largely silenced in female cells, growing evidence suggests that changes in its stability over the course of life may influence gene regulation, ageing, and susceptibility to disease. This presentation examines how understanding X chromosome biology can provide new insights into why certain neurological, autoimmune, and age-related disorders differ between women and men, opening new opportunities for precision medicine. Dr. Daniel Andergassen is *Group Leader at the Technical University of Munich (TUM)*, where his research focuses on epigenetics, X chromosome biology, gene regulation, and ageing. By combining genomics, molecular biology, and computational approaches, his work investigates how epigenetic regulation across the lifespan contributes to health, longevity, and sex-specific disease risk. The Milan Longevity Summit brings together global leaders across science, medicine, policy, business, technology and society to rethink the future of health through a One Health perspective—recognising that the wellbeing of people, planet and economies is deeply interconnected.
