In this lecture we explore the critical difference between wellness and longevity risk factors, and why loss of resiliency is one of the most important clinical markers you need to evaluate in your patients.
We review findings from the Dunedin Longitudinal Study that followed over 1000 people from age 26 to 45, tracking biomarkers and identifying the earliest signs of accelerated aging. The results reveal that cognitive difficulties, sensory motor decline, older physical appearance, and pessimistic attitudes about aging were the strongest predictors of poor aging outcomes, even more telling than standard lab markers.
This is essential for understanding why some patients don't respond to interventions that should work. When someone has lost physiological resiliency, whether through mitochondrial dysfunction, stem cell exhaustion, or inflammaging, your standard functional medicine protocols may not produce the results you expect. Learn how to identify these patterns early and adjust your clinical approach accordingly.
We also discuss how the hallmarks of aging express differently in various tissues depending on environmental stressors, why cognitive function at age 45 matters so much, and what shifting morbidity to the right actually means for your patients' healthspan.
