*Heritability of Lifespan Is Higher Than We Thought* __ How much of how long we live is written in our genes? In this keynote from *Decoding the Biology of Ageing at the Milan Longevity Summit 2026*, Professor *Uri Alon* challenges long-standing assumptions about the genetic contribution to human lifespan, presenting new insights into why longevity may be considerably more heritable than previously estimated. Understanding the balance between genetics, environment, and behaviour is fundamental to decoding human ageing. By revisiting the way lifespan heritability is measured, this research offers a new perspective on the biological mechanisms that enable exceptional longevity and on the pathways that may protect against age-related decline. *Professor Uri Alon is Professor of Molecular Cell Biology and Director of the Sagol Institute for Longevity Research at the Weizmann Institute of Science*. Internationally recognised for his pioneering work in systems biology, he investigates the design principles underlying biological networks and complex human traits. His research brings together molecular biology, genetics, mathematics, and systems thinking to uncover fundamental mechanisms of health, disease, and ageing. The Milan Longevity Summit brings together global leaders across science, medicine, policy, business, technology and society to rethink the future of health through a One Health perspective—recognising that the wellbeing of people, planet and economies is deeply interconnected.
