New but Old RNAs at the Crossroad Between Healthspan, Aging and Disease
--
How do RNA molecules influence the way we age?
In this session from Decoding the Biology of Ageing at the Milan Longevity Summit 2026, Professor Valerio Orlando explores the emerging role of non-coding RNAs in regulating healthspan, ageing, and age-related disease.
Once thought to play only a minor role in biology, these RNA molecules are now recognised as key regulators of gene expression, cellular identity, and tissue function. This conversation examines how "new but old" RNAs influence the ageing process and how understanding their function could open new avenues for diagnostics, regenerative medicine, and therapies that promote healthy longevity.
Professor Valerio Orlando is Professor of Bioscience at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and an internationally recognised expert in epigenetics, genome regulation, and RNA biology. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms that govern cellular identity and ageing, uncovering how gene regulatory networks contribute to health, disease, and longevity.
The Milan Longevity Summit brings together global leaders across science, medicine, policy, business, technology and society to rethink the future of health through a One Health perspective—recognising that the wellbeing of people, planet and economies is deeply interconnected.
