*Telomere Biology in Aging and Disease* Why do our cells lose their ability to regenerate as we grow older? In this session from *Decoding the Biology of Ageing at the Milan Longevity Summit* 2026, *Professor Fabrizio d'Adda di Fagagna* explores the biology of telomeres—protective structures at the ends of chromosomes that play a fundamental role in cellular ageing, genome stability, and disease. As telomeres shorten over time, cells become more vulnerable to damage, senescence, and dysfunction. This conversation examines how telomere biology influences the ageing process, its links to cancer and age-related diseases, and how a deeper understanding of these mechanisms could lead to new therapeutic strategies that promote healthy longevity. Professor Fabrizio d'Adda di Fagagna is *Senior Scientist at IFOM – the AIRC Institute of Molecular Oncology and Research Director at the Institute of Molecular Genetics (IGM-CNR) in Pavia*. An internationally recognised leader in the fields of genome stability, DNA damage response, cellular senescence, and telomere biology, his pioneering research has advanced our understanding of the molecular mechanisms that connect ageing, cancer, and human longevity. The Milan Longevity Summit brings together global leaders across science, medicine, policy, business, technology and society to rethink the future of health through a One Health perspective—recognising that the wellbeing of people, planet and economies is deeply interconnected.
