What happens inside our cells as we age—and what can this teach us about preventing disease? In this session from the *Milan Longevity Summit 2026*, Professor *Roberto Sitia* explores the cellular mechanisms that underpin ageing, protein quality control, and the development of chronic diseases. His research sheds light on how maintaining cellular health is fundamental to extending healthspan and unlocking new therapeutic opportunities. From basic science to translational medicine, this conversation highlights the importance of understanding the biology of ageing as a foundation for healthier, longer lives. Professor Roberto Sitia is a physician and internationally renowned cell biologist whose research has transformed our understanding of protein folding, cellular stress responses, and the molecular mechanisms underlying ageing and disease. He is Professor Emeritus at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University and has held leading research roles at the San Raffaele Scientific Institute, where his work has contributed significantly to advances in immunology and cell biology. The Milan Longevity Summit brings together global leaders across science, medicine, policy, business, technology and society to rethink the future of health through a One Health perspective—recognising that the wellbeing of people, planet and economies is deeply interconnected. *Learn more about the Milan Longevity Summit:* https://www.milanlongevitysummit.org/speakers26/roberto-sitia #MilanLongevitySummit #Longevity #OneHealth #CellBiology #HealthyAgeing #Healthspan #BiomedicalResearch #ProteinFolding #Immunology #RobertoSitia
